Though, that might not happen with the recent Smoked by Windows Phone controversy. Nielsen compiled market research data from the last three months and based on their findings, Android still rules the US market – but only by a little.

The market data analyzed by Neilsen covers December 2011 until February 2012. 48 percent of people who got smartphones within this period got an Android. Apple got the second largest slice of the pie when 43 percent of buyers got an iPhone. RIM got a 5 percent market share and the remaining 4 percent of buyers purchased phones running other mobile OS, including Microsoft’s Windows Phone.

As of February 2012, most Americans own smartphones running Android – 48 percent to be exact. 32 percent own iPhones, 12 percent have Blackberries, and 8 percent have phones running mobile platforms other than the aforementioned. On a different note, the number of Americans with feature phones continue to decline and as of last month, numbers are split. Fifty percent of US mobile subscribers now own smartphones, a 12 percent increase compared to last year.

Nielsen’s report is more accurate than Pew Internet. Earlier this month, Pew Internet said more than half of US phone owners had smartphones. In reality, less than 50 percent of surveyed Americans had smartphones though it was still more compared to those who owned feature phones. 6 percent of the people they surveyed didn’t own a phone and that’s where they got their numbers from. It’s only a matter of time before more Americans actually own smartphones though. Given Nielsen’s report, Android will most likely remain on top when that happens. Then again, the new iPhone is due this fall and that could threaten Android’s current position on American soil.

So, are you betting on Android or Apple?

<a

Then what color of laser pointers on earth suit your needs best? The answer will depend primarily on what you will need a laser for as well as what output power you’re looking for.

1. What color is the brightest?
Among them, green laser pointers are supposed to be more powerful and brighter than both blue lasers and red lasers. Green at 532nm is always the brightest color of laser light at the same output power. That means that a 100mW of green will be seven times brighter than a 100mW of any other color, so keep that in mind for brightness.
2. What is the best for Astronomy?
When we say astronomy laser pointer, it is most often associated with the laser pointer used in star-gazing and star-pointing. If one is in astronomy club buddies or conducting an astronomy lecture outdoors, such gadgets are ideal for identifying a star or constellation in the sky.
For this use, green laser pointers would be the preferred one. For one reason, green is the most visible laser pointer color for the human eye is most sensitive to green light. Therefore, it is more visible to the distant places. The other reason could be the effect of light in the earth’s atmosphere. Green is a medium wavelength so it scatters more and is more visible than longer wavelengths such as red. At the same output power, a green portable laser will appear much brighter than either a yellow, blue or red laser.
3. What is the best for burning?
The way to judge whether it is up to the capability to burning things such as matches, firecrackers, balloons, and cigarettes is simple. We only need to know its output power. The color of the laser beam matter little as it is the output power that determines burning ability. A laser pointer requires a minimum of 100mW output power to burning things. And the higher the power is the more easily and faster the laser pointer burns things.

Smartphones have given a major push to the mobile phone market. It is true that in the beginning common people couldn’t afford to pay the devices high prices. However, now smartphones are available at reasonable prices well within the reach of the majority of mobile phone fans. Along with the growing use of smartphones, mobile phone tracking applications have also witnessed a high demand. There are people who look for safe, secure and accurate ways to monitor the phone activities of certain people. iPhone tracking software enable them to perform this task quite precisely.

If you are looking for smartphone tracking apps, then this article will offer you a useful guide. As mobile technology has greatly advanced, the options that you now have are two: install a tracking hardware or its superior software counterpart. Let us discuss several aspects of the two options.

Hardware Option:
Availing smartphone hardware equipment will provide you with an opportunity to track the activities of a given person. It can be easily done by keeping tab on the handset with the help of a GPS monitoring option. You need to pay a monthly subscription to avail reports on the exact location of the mobile phone at any time. However, here is a note of caution. This facility can cover only a limited area. You will not be able to track the particular cell phone as soon as it moves out of the specific network coverage zone. Moreover, the hardware is easily visible and it will arouse suspicion in the mind of the person whom you want to closely monitor.

Software Option:
The software-based mobile phone tracking applications, such as MobileMonitor (http://mobilemonitor.com), are far more reliable, powerful and advanced than their hardware counterparts. The customer can purchase the apps online and install them even without the assistance of expert technician or a mobile phone expert. One of the key advantages of these software apps is that they are completely undetectable.

Even if you lose or misplace your costly smartphone, there is no need to worry. MobileMonitor cell phone monitoring softwarewill keep tab on every single activity of the mobile set and will track its actual location at any given moment of time. You only need to install the application in your cell phone set. The mobile tracking software is regarded as the ideal option rather than the hardware solutions as the former is user-friendly, undetectable, quick to install and cost-effective http://mobilemonitor.com/howtoinstall.

MobileMonitor, the advanced mobile tracker provides users with regular updates on the smartphone activities. These include SMS and e-mails sent or received from the target mobile phone, call and browser history, etc. Moreover, this option also allows users to see the sites visited via the mobile phone, the media files saved on the mobile device as well as installed programmes. There is another key advantage of this feature. Even if the messages and the photographs are deleted from the cell phone, they will be still available to the user of smartphone tracking kit. Mobile Monitor (http://mobilemonitor.com/) is a reliable and sophisticated mobile phone tracking application that can give you comprehensive mobile device activity information at any time.

By Michael Robinson, Defense and Technology Specialist, Money Morning

Forget about the “Tablet Wars.” That’s yesterday’s news. The same thing goes for the long-predicted “Death of the PC.” You see, the mainstream media has unleashed a torrent of technology predictions for 2012. They’re all a mile wide and an inch deep.No one seems to get the big picture.
The single most important computing trend that will unfold this year is getting almost no buzz. And yet…
This is the year when the technology sector will enter a whole new dimension. It’s called 3D computing.
Make No Mistake About it… Now, I’m not talking about wearing funny glasses while you watch TV.

This is the year Intel Corp plans to hit the market with 3D chips.
This doesn’t just put the storied Silicon Valley leader ahead of its competition; it also symbolizes the breakthroughs that will drive the “Era of Radical Change.” Fasten your seat belts folks. As I discussed yesterday, the world is speeding up.

As you are no doubt aware, all manner of computers keep getting smaller – and faster. Like clockwork, chips pack twice as much punch every two years. Radical Change Take a look at a cell phone from the early 1990s. You couldn’t make a decent call on one and it was nearly as big as a brick. Today, a smart phone fits in the palm of your hand. It surfs the Web, plays video, and can even pilot an unmanned drone half a world away.
Smaller, Faster, More Powerful than Ever. It’s all because of Moore’s Law. An Intel co-founder, Gordon Moore predicted that every two years computing power would double. Moore realized high-tech engineers would keep finding new ways to make transistors smaller.

But let’s not resort to geek speak. Just remember that the size of all electronics is governed by how many of these little devices we can put on a single chip. Just like loading up your wallet, when it comes to chips more is better – much better. Except that every few years the “experts” warn us that we’re about to hit a brick wall and our electronics just can’t get any smaller. That’s because in the past we could only put all of this key information on a flat surface. At some point you just run out of real estate − unless you can go vertical.

If you can stack a bunch of these tiny transistors on top of each other you can get more output from the same chip. It’s like owning a parking lot and suddenly waking up to see it’s now a three-story garage. Intel says it expects to make chips that run as much as 37% faster. That’s a huge increase in speed.
Using Moore’s Law, we can predict those same chips will be 148% faster in just four years. That’s the power of exponential increases in technology. Let’s face it. If your portfolio showed those kinds of gains you would hardly brush them off. And yet… naysayers abound.

As reported in The New York Times, industry skeptics believe Intel is sinking billions into unproven technology. Moreover, the skeptics say the new chips will be too power-hungry to work well in smart phones and tablet computers. But they are missing the point. If Intel doesn’t solve the power problem, someone else will.

I predict 3D computing will become standard throughout the computer industry by the end of this decade.
I also believe that 3D processor technology will find its way into mobile devices and thousands of other products as well. After all, not long from now we will see billions of digital machines communicating with each other wirelessly. We’ll even be wearing computers in the form of smart fabrics, contact lenses and eyeglasses that double as Internet projectors.

As it turns out, Intel isn’t the only mega-cap tech leader pushing the 3D boundary. In fact, an alliance between International Business Machines Corp. and 3M Company could result in chips that someday run 1,000 times faster. The two tech giants are currently working on a breakthrough way of stacking standard processor chips on top of each other. It’s called “3D packaging,” and it’s sort of like building a 10-story high-rise so small you can’t see it with the naked eye.

Big Blue hopes to release the first versions of these chip stacks sometime next year. So far we’ve only focused on chips that process information. Turns out several companies are improving the capacity of memory chips by stacking them on top of each other. This is crucial in a world filled with broadband data. Memory chips provide temporary data storage and can improve a computer’s performance.

Still, if our recent experience is any guide, the mainstream media will just gloss over these breakthroughs as well. So stay tuned. The Era of Radical Change is here.

A new generation of medical devices is set to have a profound impact on American health – and wealth.

You see, I know from detailed research and analysis that more than 100,000 people in the U.S. die each year from bad reactions to drugs.

That’s more than three times as many as those who die from all street drugs, including heroin.

Fortunately, a better way is just on the horizon.

Indeed, new “microchip medicine” technology by itself could save as many as 1 million American lives roughly every decade.

It’s proof that you should never throw a good idea away. The two researchers behind this new breakthrough device first thought of it more than 15 years ago.

Now, their tiny product appears headed to produce some big results.

Microchip Medicine Breakthroughs
To reach this breakthrough, the two Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) researchers teamed up with their colleagues at a small biotech firm called MicroCHIPS. The firm is privately held.

But if it ever goes public, you’ll want to keep an eye on MicroCHIPS as a potentially winning investment – one that also will benefit millions.

Here’s why: A new study showed that doctors can safely implant a small semiconductor into a patient’s body.

In turn, doctors can program the microchip to deliver the correct doses of medicine at precisely the right times.

The chips operate wirelessly and can be programmed as needed to change doses. How cool is this?

This particular study involved providing drugs to women who suffer from osteoporosis. But I believe it could be used with dozens of diseases treated with prescription drugs.

But don’t take my word for it. Here is what MIT professor Robert Langer had to say.

You could literally have a pharmacy on a chip,” Langer told the college journal MIT News.

His partner, Michael Cima, also addressed one of my main concerns, which is patient safety. Of course, he didn’t directly discuss saving lives.

But he seems to understand instinctively how difficult it is for patients on multiple drugs to keep taking them in the correct sequence.

The microchip technology avoids the “compliance issue completely,” Cima says, adding that it “points to a future where you have fully automated drug regimens.”

Bingo. That’s what I’m talking about.

In the very near future, your doctor will no longer bother with injections or pills. Instead, he will implant a microchip in your body.

That chip – or something similar – will deliver the right drugs at the right time.

To keep you safe, your doctor will get alerts from your body delivered <a

But MicroCHIPS is working on a system that will increase that number to 100.

In fact, I predict that in the next few years, patients will receive several different prescribed drugs from a single chip.

After all, we live in an Era of Radical Change in which devices get ever more powerful as they get smaller.

Microchip Medicine Means Longer Lifespans

The combination of new computers, software and biotech will combine to help us live well beyond 100 with much better physical and mental health.

More breakthroughs are on the way…

Take the “crab” that can eat the cancer inside your body.

Actually, it’s a <a

Once on target, the bot uses a pincer to cut out the cancer, which the robotic arm then removes.

This could have a major medical impact across the board. That includes those stricken with stomach cancer.

Stomach cancer remains a leading killer worldwide and is common in East Asia. Researchers said the robot recently helped remove early-stage stomach cancers in five patients in India and Hong Kong.

The Singapore team also reported three other benefits – no scars, less time in surgery and reduced risks of infection.

Bad Vision?… There’s an App for That

Finally, your smart phone may soon be able to give you an eye exam. This new $2 app comes to you from MIT Professor Ramesh Raskar.

He notes that some 2 billion people in the world need glasses. But millions in developing nations can’t get their eyes checked.

His Netra system uses an eyepiece that clips to the smart phone. It then measures your vision.

Raskar’s team says Netra uses cheap optics and interactive software to replace costly laser-based gear.

He talked about Netra’s potential in a YouTube video. He says the team is working with eye clinics and eye-glass firms to get the new tech out in the field.

So, you can see that at the very least, some of this new technology will improve human health. Others will help us live much longer.

Still others will no doubt save millions of lives someday.

And remember, as investors we will benefit as well, since some new medical devices are bound to result in some very profitable stock plays.

currency investing can be a dangerous business.
For instance, the euro – the simplest of hedges against a declining dollar and the U.S. Federal Reserve’s expansive monetary policy – has run into difficulties, losing billions for even the most sophisticated Wall Street banks.
But that’s not all. The Brazilian real, which was one of the best performing currencies of 2010, has dropped back sharply in 2011.
Still, if you harness the lessons of 2011, you can take advantage of the new opportunities set to emerge in 2012. In particular there are three currencies every investor should own.

I’ll get to those in a moment. But first, I’d like to fill you in on what currencies to avoid.
This is just as important – maybe even more so.

Currency Traps

Obviously, the euro is not to be trusted. If its problems were confined to Greece and Portugal, they would be surmountable. But they’re not. The extension of problems to Italy and Spain, which are both too large to bail out, makes the Eurozone liable to explode, split in two, or simply witness a mass default of several of its countries and much of its banking system.
Certain individual European shares may be a good buy. And German government bonds may be a good buy, since the German currency would explode upwards if the euro split. But the euro itself? No thanks.
The Japanese yen isn’t safe either.
Unlike most other currencies, the yen has risen more than 50% against the U.S. dollar since 2007 and is up another 6% since the beginning of 2011. In short, it has done what President Obama would like China’s yuan to do.
Needless to say, Japanese exporters are suffering at these levels, and the country’s government debt, over 200% of gross domestic product (GDP) and all denominated in an appreciating yen, has become a serious worry. While the yen could rise further, it must be regarded as very unsafe.
The pound sterling is equally unsafe, but for different reasons.
The British government is running a budget deficit as large as that of the United States, while the British economy is highly dependent on the very unstable and overblown financial services sector.

The pound has some upward potential, and Britain’s balance of payments deficit is currently modest, but the Bank of England (BOE) has announced a $430 billion (275 billion pounds) “quantitative easing” program – equivalent to a $2 trillion program here in the United States. So if the United States gets in trouble, Britain is likely to be in even more trouble.

The Australian dollar and Swiss Franc both have safe haven potential, but both currencies ran up a long way in 2011 and the Swiss National bank is determined to print money in order to stop its rise against the euro.

Avoiding these currencies is the first step toward a profitable 2012. The second step is to load up on the currencies that will weather any potential economic downturn and soar should the global economy recover.

Three Must-Own Currencies

To that end, the three must-have currenciesof 2012 are as follows:

The Canadian Dollar (CAD): Canada is a close neighbor, but distinguished from the United States in having a sound banking system, a much smaller budget deficit, and huge energy and mineral wealth. The Canadian dollar had risen as high as $1.06 in the early part of 2011, but has since drifted back down to about 98 cents. At that level, it has further to rise and is an excellent hedge against any severe problems in the U.S. economy.

The Chilean Peso (CLP): Like the Canadian dollar, the Chilean peso benefits from rising resource prices. Better still, Chile is by far the best-run country in Latin America, with a Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index rating better than that of the United States. The next election is not until December 2013, so political stability is assured. The peso has fallen about 8% this year on fears about emerging markets, but Chile’s current account deficit is less than 1% of GDP. It has virtually no government debt and a large trust fund to cushion against shocks (such as last year’s earthquake, for example).

The South Korean Won (KRW): The won is a hedge against problems in the United States, but also against a collapse in commodity prices. Contrary to the Japanese yen, the won has fallen about 20% against the dollar since 2007, and is flat on the year. However, even with high commodity prices, Korea runs a substantial current account surplus. It also runs a budget surplus with the lowest amount of government spending in the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) group of rich nations. So it is fabulously strong economically. The only potential weakness comes in the form of an election next April, but even the opposition in Korea is thoroughly pro-market and should cause few problems.

So there you have it. These are the three currencies investors must own in 2012. Stick with them and avoid the likes of the dollar, euro, yen, and pound. If you do, you’ll be set for a far more rewarding year in 2012.

<a

Just recently, they’ve announced a pretty unique smartphone, the SCH-W999, which will only be available in China, so most westerners won’t see it, ever, and that is a shame – at least we can marvel at it and its impressive specs from afar.

The W999 is a flip smartphone, sort of – it flips all the way to 180 degrees. The reason for that is the dual display configuration. Samsung has pulled a weird one on this phone – it has equipped it with a numpad, D-pad and the usual Android navigation keys, as well as two 3.5 inch capacitive touch Super AMOLED screens, each with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. It’s not a “two screens transform into one” phone, either, as you can only use one screen at the time – one with the keyboard below it and one in “full touch” mode, with the keyboard on the back (like the Motorola Backflip). The back cover also has the same HyperSkin as on the Galaxy Nexus for a better grip and anti-smudges.

An interesting decision to say the least and I really don’t see the point of it, unless it’s meant for two people watching a video at the same time. Regardless, it looks pretty unique, and the internal features also match its dual personality. The phone is equipped with a dual core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8660 processor, two radios (CDMA and GSM, which is very impressive, actually) and two SIM card slots (in the best Chinese traditions). Performance won’t be a problem, as you can tell, especially since there’s 1 GB of RAM inside (too bad it isn’t 2, though).

Of course, all the other features are also there – Wifi N, Bluetooth 3.0 EDR, GPS, one 5 megapixels camera that can be used for video calls, as well as a HD video recorder or point and shoot, a micro SD card slot for storage space, USB port, but sadly there’s no HDMI out capability. The phone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and it will probably be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich, as well.

You might think that the battery life will suffer from two displays, but actually, you can only use on display at a time, so you’re not losing hours off the work time, it just makes the phone thicker and “dual mode”.

The price is also double that of a phone equipped with one Super AMOLED display – at $1400 for an unlocked, contract-free unit, this has got to be one of the most expensive phones in China. Perhaps it is aimed at businessmen – the two radios and two SIM card slots practically guarantee that it’ll work anywhere in the world, and that’s pretty important for traveling professionals.

Well, I’m here to tell you that you’re thinking too small.
Way too small.
By 2020, there will be 50 billion connected devices in use worldwide.

That’s not a typo. And it’s not a “hyped” estimate that we came up with internally. In fact, the estimate was made by Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson, one of the largest telecommunications companies on the planet, in the research report “More Than 50 Billion Connected Devices.“

That creates a lot of significant risks. But for savvy investors, it creates one hellacious profit opportunity. And there’s one company in particular that’s poised to profit.
Still need to know more?

Well, consider a “connected future” in which:

The “connected” shoes of the elderly, or patients with health problems, can be monitored to make sure those folks are getting proper exercise.

Connected vehicles can be remotely controlled to maximize fuel efficiency and to minimize traffic jams.

You can use your phone to cool off your house via your connected air conditioner – as you drive home from work.

A connected vending machine can signal when it needs to be replenished, saving the vendor from unnecessary visits.

Your mobile device can be turned into a virtual wallet, or even a bank.

And connected trees can signal a lumber mill, which monitors them to nurture a better crop, and a more-timely harvest.

Business, consumer electronics, healthcare, government … they’ll all be affected, and in a huge way.

And the 50 billion estimate could actually be low, Ericsson says. By 2020, for instance, there will be:

3 billion subscribers with the means to buy information on a round-the-clock basis – either for a lifestyle improvement, or for personal security. In “mature” markets, these subscribers will typically have between five and 10 connected devices each.

1.5 billion vehicles in existence worldwide, many of them connected. And that doesn’t include buses or railroad trains.

3 billion utility meters (water, natural gas and electricity).

And a cumulative 100 billion processors shipped – each capable of being connected.

So, as a now-intrigued investor, how do you play this? Well, there are several possible paths to pursue.
You could, for instance, invest in the component makers. Or you could invest in the companies that make the actual devices. But the hottest opportunity is going to be security. Cybersecurity is one of the biggest growth areas for business in the years to come.

And with 50 billion connected devices, that opportunity is going to explode. Just think: How do you protect the networks, the devices themselves, and the bank accounts and credit cards that supposedly sit behind those billions of gadgets – which you know present a “target-rich” environment for scammers, hackers and those friendly letter writers from Nigeria.

Yes, for investors like you, security is where the action figures to be.
And while much of this growth is still down the road and in the future, there are actually several companies that are already very well positioned to benefit.

<a

A sergeant on duty would roll up his sleeves and be ready at all times in case a frantic call for help. To meet up this sudden demand, the surveillance department uses cell phones to track people who seek their help during emergencies. These special mobile phones are technologically powerful with a mobile phone tracking system to locate people quickly and accurately.

GPS Tracking Technology

The technology that is used in tracking people, automobiles, objects located anywhere on the earth is Global Positioning System (GPS). The know-how uses satellite signals to locate the distance between the object and the satellite and the time when the measurement was done.

Although invented for US Defense team, the concept has found immense use in the mobile phone tracking system. As the signal used in GPS methodology can go through tangible and opaque objects, it is simply effective way to locate cell phones that may be kept in a pocket, suitcase, or wrapped up in a cloth.

Different Tracking System

Different handsets are compatible with different mobile phone tracking system. For instance, there is network-based GSM Mobile Phone Tracking System that uses the network of the mobile service provider to locate phones.
